Award-winning lighting design consultancy Studio N has crafted a lighting scheme for One Offices – a destination workplace in Dubai’s iconic One Za’abeel development.
Situated at the gateway to the city’s central business district, the prestigious address was designed by JLL and blends premium office suites and conference rooms with hospitality-style amenities to create a high-end workplace environment defined by comfort and elevated luxury.
As One Offices take its cue from the neighbouring One&Only Urban Resort and the Michelin-starred restaurants within One Za’abeel’s futuristic floating skybridge, a hospitality tone runs through the project. Studio N’s lighting scheme reinforces this design narrative, bringing warmth, balance and elegance to the communal zones, while enhancing the functionality of the working areas through skilfully integrated lighting details.
The double-height lobby makes a striking first impression, anchoring the workplace to its illustrious surroundings. The standout feature is a theatrical staircase that references Dubai’s sunset sky through its contrasting wood and bronze finishes. Studio N commissioned a bespoke lighting installation by Nulty Bespoke to animate the space and playfully link the two floors. Comprising 500 handblown glass birds, the artistic centrepiece is a moment of delicacy amidst the sculptured lines of the architecture. The team placed downlights above the piece to bounce light onto the glass elements and concealed lines of light in the marble steps to produce an ethereal glow up and down the stairs.
In the adjacent lounges and breakout areas, layers of ambient and accent illumination invite occupants to pause and relax. Rhythmic lines of recessed downlights create a warm, harmonious glow above the seating areas and extend into the circulation zones to produce a natural sense of flow. The joinery pieces have been enhanced through integrated lines of light that emphasise the sensuous contours of the craftsmanship.
Designed with flexibility in mind, the lighting schemes in the workplace suites can be tailored to accommodate different spatial layouts and working styles. Minimalist rectilinear track and spotlight systems mirror the sleek architectural lines of the architecture and can be easily reconfigured as needs evolve. The lighting language is deliberately understated to preserve the panoramic views through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
In the meeting areas and conference rooms, layers of light continue the warm, welcoming atmosphere, while optimising each space for meetings and video conferencing. Cove lighting and ultra-discreet downlights produce a gentle layer of ambient illumination from above, which is complemented by finely crafted luminaires that add character and visual intrigue.
