Reimagined by AAID, the Ministry of Tourism’s headquarters has undergone a wanderlust-inspired transformation celebrating Saudi Arabia’s rich landscapes, heritage and culture. Our architectural lighting scheme brings the vibrant, modern interiors to life while supporting an open and agile workplace.
Embodying movement and exploration, the lighting strategy focuses on creating an experience-rich workplace that accentuates architectural focal points and draws out the beauty of materials. Our design also plays a functional role by improving permeability and creating a sense of connectivity throughout.
Lines of illumination frame architectural fins in walkways between interconnected buildings that immerse people in a rhythmic flow of light as they walk between spaces, encouraging exploration.
Inspired by the desert rose, a dramatic ceiling installation greets VIPs with a unique sense of arrival. Lines of light concealed under each petal highlight the three-dimensional sculpture and create a warm, welcoming effect.
An artistic wall behind the reception desk represents Mada’in Saleh – the ancient rock-carved monuments found in the desert. Concealed diffuse lighting brings depth to the design by highlighting the contours for a subtle sand-toned glow.
In the light-filled atrium, minimalist step lighting teams with spike lighting among lush planting to complement natural light cascading through – daylight and biophilia were key considerations throughout, so natural and artificial light had to be balanced in each space.
Concealed ceiling illumination grazes light onto the curved silhouettes of commanding sand-toned walls below, drawing attention to their texture and fluidity, transforming a standard corridor into an elevated experience.
Straight and curved lighting profiles integrated into suspended ceiling trays mirror the graphic, red-toned flooring, defining the space. Minimal spotlights supplement light levels to provide comfortable illumination for the desks below.
