Italian eatery Scalini Cucina, Dubai Mall required a lighting scheme to reflect the relaxed charm of a traditional trattoria, while enhancing the joyful Mediterranean-inspired interiors by Bishop Design.
Our lighting strategy centres on strengthening the Scalini brand by creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that captures the sunlit essence of the Italian Riviera. The approach delivers a memorable dining experience through considered lighting techniques that elevate the elegant interior and accentuate vibrant colours and textures.
Linear luminaires concealed along the striking, signature-blue façade softly illuminate decorative panelling that forms the backdrop for a stylish, backlit Scalini Cucina sign. Above the pavement-style dining area, recessed downlights cast a warm and welcoming ambient glow.
Guests are immediately transported into a bright and breezy coastal setting. A backlit fabric ceiling mimics the effect of daylight streaming in, evoking a sunny ambience. Directly below, a lush lemon tree adds freshness and drama and is highlighted by adjustable spotlights positioned around it.
Recessed track lighting and concealed wall grazers emphasise the vertical surfaces, drawing the eye through the space. A cool colour temperate of 4000K accentuates the Scalini-blue walls, making them pop, whereas in the restaurant, a warmer 3000K creates a cosy and inviting tone.
Seamlessly integrated joinery lighting accents the shelving, highlighting the eclectic mix of objects on display, while classic-style chandeliers and pendants provide a sophisticated final layer.
