British Airways’ lounge at Dubai International Airport is a destination in itself – an elegant retreat designed to meet the diverse needs of today’s travellers. The characterful space combines the sophistication of a boutique Dubai hotel with the comfort and flexibility of a modern coworking hub.
Our lighting scheme is designed to support every iteration of the guest experience: warm layers of illumination to encourage relaxation; controlled task lighting for those wishing to work or meet before a flight; and playful design moments that leave a lasting impression.
A bespoke chandelier composed of linear elements creates vertical drama in the dining area. Set against an antique mirrored ceiling, the installation is framed by indirect cove lighting around the perimeter, carefully integrated to accentuate its smoky-toned surface.
A series of illuminated arches creates a rhythmic play of light throughout the lounge, wrapping around the decorative mirrored feature walls to produce a theatrical, shimmering effect.
A high level of customised joinery lighting was developed for the scheme, elevating the space through finesse and attention to detailing.
The lighting helps create a range of moods, tailored to the different ways travellers use the lounge. Soft illumination supports relaxation, while focused lighting within the booths creates comfortable settings for reading or working.
A high-quality control system allows the lighting to adapt throughout the day. Occupancy sensors minimise unnecessary energy consumption, and automated scenes respond to the time of day and British Airways’ flight schedules.
