Featured Project: FZN

Nestled within the prestigious Atlantis The Palm, FZN redefines fine dining with a seamless blend of culinary artistry, intimate ambiance, and sophisticated lighting design. Spread across two floors, this 27-seat restaurant, inspired by the Michelin-starred Chef Björn Frantzén’s restaurant in Stockholm and Zén in Singapore, offers an immersive journey where lighting, architecture, and cuisine unite for an unforgettable sensory experience.

FZN’s entrance is deliberately understated, with a single downlight subtly highlighting the discreet door, enticing guests within. Beyond, a softly illuminated reception area welcomes visitors, where diffuse ceiling lights guide them towards a glowing reception desk—a focal point framed by a warm underglow that accentuates its craftsmanship. This seamless transition of light fosters an immediate sense of exclusivity and anticipation.

Ascending to the upper level, guests encounter a breathtaking centrepiece: an upside-down tree adorned with smoked crystals, encircled by a halo of light that enhances its ethereal presence. This sculptural installation sets the tone for an extraordinary dining journey. A corridor lined with a curated gallery of fruits and vegetables is subtly lit by rhythmic downlights and concealed fixtures within the greenery. Backlit panels transform everyday ingredients into objects of reverence, blending function with aesthetic brilliance.

At the heart of FZN lies the show kitchen, where Studio N’s moody, high-contrast lighting design takes centre stage. Precision lighting, including 10-degree downlights, casts focused beams onto the chef’s table, transforming the kitchen into a theatrical performance space. This carefully orchestrated illumination enhances visibility while creating an intimate, theatre-like dining experience.

In the dining area, the lighting design strikes a balance between ambient warmth and architectural highlights. Focused downlights and decorative elements enhance Scandinavian simplicity and opulent detailing. A stunning Bomma chandelier, suspended beneath a grand domed ceiling, casts mesmerising patterns of light and shadow, complementing the refined interior. Carefully integrated lighting highlights key textures, from vivid red tiles behind the joinery to gold motifs embellishing deep blue walls, ensuring a visually engaging experience at every turn.

Throughout FZN, we’ve meticulously woven lighting into the fabric of the restaurant, ensuring each space tells a story through illumination. The thoughtful layering of warm, focused light (2700K) enhances ambiance, enveloping guests in intimacy and sophistication. FZN is a masterclass in immersive design—where light, architecture, and gastronomy converge to create an unforgettable sensory experience—elevating fine dining into a true work of art.
